Field of activity

Cash Markets Operations is responsible for safe, integer and efficient delivery of services to our customers in Deutsche Börse Cash Markets (Frankfurt Stock Exchange market places: Xetra and Börse Frankfurt) and partner exchanges (mainly around Europe) by running the day-to-day business. It ensures safe and orderly trading and runs the customer helpdesks for related trading services.

As an Intern/Student Assistant in one of our two teams, you will be in the heart of financial markets and will actively support the team that on a daily basis supports market participants in all functional related questions, performs quality assurance of trading related data, accompanies system and market model changes as well as handles exceptions in a very dynamic environment.



  • Support the team to perform daily work that ensures error-free and smooth functional operation of several markets within the framework of different topics: Financial Instruments, Trading system interfaces & Automation Tools as well as Emergency handling
  • Assist in performing trading suspensions and resumptions
  • Monitor trading activities in the cash market systems (Xetra and T7)
  • Help the team to provide functional support of market participants (especially traders & system developers) in all functional questions with regards to market models, financial instruments and other trading related topics
  • Support during Deutsche Börse Group-wide trading system release projects to ensure smooth functioning of Operations after implementation
  • Participation/coordination of team-internal optimization initiatives, which focus on continuous improvement through Process Streamlining, Digitization and Automation according to the underlying principles of quality and efficient Operations (keywords: lean, six sigma) including implementation of selected Operations 4.0 megatrends (e.g. scalability through API-compatibility, analytics-enabled & modular platforms, artificial intelligence)
  • Take over administrative and organizational work
  • Potential involvement in selected research tasks


Qualifications/required skills



Enrolment in an academic program during the whole internship/student assistant term, preferably in finance/economics with very good to good (ongoing) results, optimally combined with technical subjects

Quick & structured analysis and problem solving skills; knowledge of relevant analysis tools is an advantage

Quick to learn new topics as well as willing and able to take over independent responsibility for a certain initiative


Capital Markets interest:

General interest in understanding underlying drivers of capital markets; fascination by day-to-day dynamics of financial markets operations


Operations aptitude:

  • Can-do attitude and driven to learn and grow; flexible & stress-resistance
  • IT affinity and being on pulse of latest technology trends is an advantage (esp. IoT, Operations 4.0)
  • First experience with programming (e.g. VBA) and willingness to expand skills in this area is an advantage



  • Team Player
  • Willingness to quickly integrate into a multi-cultural, multi-language and diverse team and become a reliable team member
  • Knowledge in project management is an advantage
  • Fluent written and spoken German or English; further languages will be an advantage


Additionally, you need to be very good at handling MS Office applications.
