Core Infrastructure is responsible for setting up and operating networks, connectivity, virtualization, and data center infrastructures for Deutsche Börse Group. We are seeking a Data Center Engineer to join our Data Center Management team. In this role, you will oversee all data center-related activities and processes, including service request fulfillment, asset management, logistics, and provider management.

 

To ensure compliance with the stringent requirements of the regulated financial industry, our team adheres to relevant standards and norms and supports audit activities. This role demands a strong focus on execution, flexibility, and a willingness to work outside of regular business hours and on weekends. The candidate must be prepared to travel between our data centers in Frankfurt and occasionally support international data centers and offices.

 

Your responsibility:

  • Manage and perform data center activities, including resource and capacity planning.
  • Coordinate and execute IT equipment installations, moves, changes, and removals with service providers, data center operators, and internal customers, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement of service delivery quality through efficient processes and procedures.
  • Assist in troubleshooting activities and ensure compliance with defined processes and procedures, supporting internal and external audits.
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and support activities outside of critical business hours.
  • Research, develop, and implement physical network infrastructure and conduct measurements of interconnection links for length determination.
  • Perform practical tasks in the data center, such as measuring cable lengths, installing new devices, and cabling/patching.
  • Develop automated test scenarios and tools to monitor customer connections and ensure operational stability within the area of responsibility.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation and procedures for measurements in the Colo network, ensuring adherence to documented procedures.
  • Provide consultancy services to other departments and support the implementation of various product vendors and technologies.
  • Offer escalation support by following processes and interacting appropriately with other departments and end users.

 

Your profile:

  • Educational background in IT or equivalent proven experience in data centers.
  • Comprehensive understanding of modern data center infrastructure and hands-on experience with networking and computing hardware, including connectivity.
  • Expertise in cabling standards, best practices, and various cable and termination types.
  • Proven track record in executing and enhancing data center management processes and procedures.
  • Experience in managing and coordinating tasks in highly available and business-critical data center environments.
  • Proficient in using data center management tools, preferably FNT Command, and familiar with Jira.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent team player with the ability to communicate effectively with providers, operators, vendors, and customers.
  • High level of integrity and discretion.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to quality. Demonstrates high self-responsibility and ownership.
  • Knowledge of time concepts such as NTP, PTP, WR-PTP, and PPS.
  • Good knowledge of physical infrastructure including TAP, fiber optic cables, and coax cables.
  • Experience handling measuring devices such as OTDR and cable-testers.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English; proficiency in German is an asset.
